PBS MENS & LADIES DOUBLES

After weeks of beautiful weather and thoughts of drought, the 2011 Men's & Ladies Doubles competition took place in almost constant rain on Sunday 12th June at the Club's terrains.

In the Ladies event, some late withdrawals meant that there was one group of nine teams, each pair having to play eight games. After a long day, the winners were Carol Woodley & Paula Foster who, having never played together before, put on an excellent show, winning all eight games (plus 41). Second with six wins (plus 15) were Joan Le Herissier & Rosemarie Le Masurier and third were Joan Le Mercier & Rita Le Brocq on five wins (plus 15).

In the men's event, 12 teams were split into two groups of six. In group A, Lyndon Lewis & Ian Foster came out on top, winning all five games, plus 39. Second with three wins, plus 18 were Keaven Taylor & Ken Vibert, who just pushed out Keith & Matthew Pinel, also three wins but plus 10.

In group B, winners with four plus 21 were relative newcomers Michael Yates & Eamonn Bougeard, who played extremely well together. Runners up were Ron Le Herissier & Alf Le Masurier, on three wins, plus 21. Also with three wins but plus 2, were Gordon de Gruchy & Dennis Le Mercier.

The third place play off saw Ron & Alf defeat Ken & Keaven 13-5.

In the final, Lyndon & Ian made a good start and soon got to a 10-2 lead. The more inexperienced pair of Eamonn & Michael dug in and eventually started coming back. At 11-7 though, a moved cochonet gave Ian & Lyndon the opening they needed and they grabbed the last two points. Final result was:

1st - Lyndon Lewis & Ian Foster; 2nd Michael Yates & Eamonn Bougeard; 3rd Ron Le Herissier & Alf Le Masurier
