PBS CLUB TRIPLES
2010 winners Louie, Carol & Doug |
The PBS Club Triples competition was held on Sunday 30th May at the Club’s terrains at Les Quennevais, with 16 teams split into two groups. In Group A, Doug & Carol Woodley & Louie Bowen were first with six wins, plus 34; second were Alf & Rosemarie Le Masurier & Penny Foster, 4 plus 17. Group B saw Lawrence Rondel, Dave Blanchard Nancy Welsh take top spot with seven wins, plus 53 whilst runners up were Gordon & Dorothy de Gruchy & Derek Hart on six plus 52. In the third place play-off, Derek & the the de Gruchys never let Alf Rosemarie & Penny get into the game and took third spot 13-0. In the final, Lawrence, Dave and Nancy took a convincing 6-2 lead but Carol's placing and Doug's firing ably supported by Louie saw that trio slowly consolidate points eventually winning 13-6. |
PBS MENS & LADIES DOUBLES
The PBS Men’s & Ladies’ Doubles competition was held on Sunday 25th April at the Club’s terrains at Les Quennevais. In the Ladies’ competition, 13 teams were divided into groups A & B. In group A, of seven pairs, Joan Le Mercier & Rita Le Brocq came first with five wins, plus 11. Second place went to Mary Southwood & Lillian de Gruchy, four plus 21. Third placed pair was Maggie Allchurch & Joy Hart with three, plus 29. In group B, Pru Vibert & Penny Foster claimed first place (three wins, plus 19) with Joan Lewis & Barbara Cunliffe second, three wins plus 9. Third spot went to Phyllis Saunders & Jean Maguire, just edged out, three plus 8. In the final, Pru & Penny took an early lead over Joan & Rita and were soon seven up. However, the later pair fought back and took the title 13-7. Mary & Lillian took third place by beating Joan & Barbara in a close match 13-11. In the Men’s competition, groups A & B also contained 7 and 6 teams respectively. In group A, every team lost at least one game but Matthew Pinel & Jez Grigg came out on top with 5 wins, plus 33. Second were Patrick Campbell & Tom Glennie on five, plus 27. Third spot went to Keaven Taylor & Doug Woodley, four plus 11. Group B was very close with all teams losing at least two matches. Top was Lawrence & Mick Rondel with three wins, plus 14. Tied for second place was Gordon de Gruchy & Dennis Le Mercier and Ron Le Herissier & Alf Le Masurier, both with three, plus 7. A one end play-off saw Gordon & Denis qualify for the 3rd place decider. In the final, Matthew & Jez’s superb firing soon gave them a reasonable lead but Lawrence & Mick kept plugging away to overtake the younger pair and take the match 13-8. In the third place play-off, Patrick & Tom beat Gordon & Dennis 13-4. |

PBS STABLEYARD DOUBLES
The first competition of the Jersey Petanque Club’s 2010 season took place on Sunday 18th April. 30 teams turned out to compete in the PBS Stableyard Doubles competition. The weather was very good and four rounds of Petanque were played. The top three teams, all with three wins were as follows: 1st Joy Hart and Maggie Allchurch 3 wins plus 28 points 2nd Dennis and Joan Le Mercier 3 wins plus 22 points 3rd Doug Woodley and Linda Taylor 3 wins plus 19 points Doug Woodley and Linda Taylor drew with Bill Perry and Lilian de Gruchy for third place, but after a one end play off Doug and Linda beat Bill and Lilian to take the third spot. WINTER MELEE
Linda Taylor & Lawrence Rondel are the 2009/10 Winter melee champions, after the final event which took place on Sunday 7th March at the club terrains. Final results were: Ladies - 1st Linda 7 wins plus 55; 2nd Jane Rondel 7 plus 43; 3rd Mary Southwood 6 plus 44. Men - 1st Lawrence 7 plus 53; 2nd Ian Rondel 7 plus 49 and 3rd Thomas Glennie 7 plus 45. |
