COUTANCES VISIT JERSEY 06 - click here to return to News

Over the weekend of 10th to 12th June, more than 30 members of the Coutances Club made their 20th visit to Jersey for a weekend of fun and petanque!

After private hosting on the Friday night, the weekend kicked off with a Vin d'Honneur at the Clubhouse on the Saturday morning. Guest of Honour was Robin Pallot, the French Consul and other guests were Lee Durrell, widow of founder President of the JPC, Gerald Durrell and Hamish Marrett-Crosby.

The "friendly" competition then followed, interupted only by a leisurely lunch in beautiful weather:

At the end of the competition, Jersey were triumphant by 44 games to 28, proving that a liquid lunch had not sapped the locals strength or diminished their talent.

In the evening a Barn Dance and buffet was held which was a huge success, with superb entertainment from the Ceiledh Band. The visitors demonstrated that what they lacked in prowess on the Petanque terrain, they more than made up for on the dance floor. The trophies for best Jersey and French pair were presented, going to Rita Le Brocq & Lawrence Rondel (4 wins plus 39) and Paul & Remi Gobbe (4 wins plus 32) respectively.

On the Sunday, an interesting and entertaining morning at the Falcon Show at La Hougue farm was followed by a Bar-b-cue lunch (courtesy of Firey Fred Paisnel) and some fun games of petanque. In the evening the visitors departed, looking forward to revenging their defeat when Jersey go to Coutances in September.
