CLUB MEMBERS ENTER UK COMPETITIONS

Ken & Beryl Vibert and Fred & Elaine Paisnel recently visited two of the Clubs that regularly support the Jersey Open. On a Saturday, they played in a friendly Melee at the Foresters Arms, Kirdford with members of the ABC Club and the following Sunday, entered the Adur Open. This attracted 42 teams from the south of England and also a few from the Isle of Wight.

Each team played five games and Beryl & Ken had a great start, with a convincing 13-3 win followed by another victory. Unfortunately, they lost their third game 12-13. As often happens, their lunch break did them no favours as they lost both games in the afternoon. However they did face some very formidable competition and some red hot firers.

Fred & Elaine started well with a win of 13-11 but then lost their next two games to 7. However, lunch had the opposite effect on them and they went on to win 13-3 in the first afternoon game. In their final game they played Jeff Fox (known to us in Jersey) who was paired with a very good firer called Vee from the Adur club. A tough battle saw the teams tied at 12 all and an exiting final end was won by the Paisnels. It was only after the game that they discovered that their opponents had won all their previous games and only needed thta last vital point to win the Open! As it was, they were placed 5th. The experience from playing in competitions like this was great and as always, the whole occasion was conducted in a friendly atmosphere.
